Introduction
The media woke up in a storm yesterday following the arrest of British rapper, YouTuber, and TV personality Yung Filly. This was due to rape and sexual assault allegations in Australia. But what really happened?
What Led to His Arrest?
The 29-year-old has been arrested in Australia. But why, you may ask? Well, this is following allegations of rape and sexual assault.
Allegedly, the rapper sexually assaulted a young woman in her 20s after his performance at the nightclub Bar 1. The incident took place on the 28th of September in his Perth hotel, in the northern coastal suburb and the capital city of Western Australia.
In addition to this, he is facing four counts of sexual penetration without consent and three counts of assault. Furthermore, he is facing another charge for “impeding a person’s normal breathing or circulation by applying pressure to their neck.”
As a result of the charges, Filly was arrested and taken into custody this Tuesday, and then extradited back to Perth the following Wednesday. He then appeared in Perth’s magistrate court on Thursday to answer the charges.

Essentially, Filly has some serious allegations against him. As of right now, the case has been adjourned, and the court granted him conditional bail. This includes a ban on contacting his alleged victim and posting on social media about the case. He was also required to pay a total of £104,000.
But such allegations could have damaging effects on his career and a lasting impact on his reputation. For now, we can only wait to see what the future holds for Yung Filly.

Sexual Violence Amongst Young People
The Filly matter represents a deeper issue within the youth. Sexual violence is a serious issue and isn’t something that should be handled lightly. Instead, we should stand up against it and be a pillar of support for victims.
It’s important to stay informed, educated, and aware of sexual violence. Understand that it comes in different forms, such as rape, assault, sexual harassment, and coercion. Statistics show that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men will experience sexual violence at some point in their lives. And young people are at the highest risk compared to all other age groups.
Additionally, the BBC looked at unique police data and found that in 2023, over 8,800 rapes were reported to the police in London. That’s like 24 reports every single day!
Such reports are shocking and are a constant reminder that as a community, we must do better. Amongst the youth, we must do better to stand against sexual violence, as well as stay safe and vigilant. We must work together to improve legal services that combat such crimes and help victims. Together, let’s say no to sexual violence.
