Labour’s Sadiq Khan has secured a historic third term as mayor of London, defeating conservative candidate Susan Hall. Khan received over 1,088,000 votes, representing 43.8% of the total, giving him a lead of around 275,000 votes over Hall, who garnered just under 813,000 votes, or 32.7%.

During his victory speech at City Hall, Khan thanked Londoners for their support, acknowledging the challenges of the campaign. He praised his team for countering negativity with facts, hope, and unity.

So what is his plan for London?

  • Offering free skills training for unemployed or low-income Londoners
  • Creating over 150,000 new jobs by 2028
  • Investing £30 million to fund more youth clubs
  • Making free school meals permanent in state primary schools
  • Keeping Transport for London fares frozen until at least 2025 and avoiding a pay-per-mile road charging scheme
  • Ending rough sleeping by 2030 with government support
  • Building 40,000 new council homes by 2030, including new “rent control” homes

Khan’s policy initiatives also include putting 1,300 more police officers on the streets, addressing violence against women and girls, and providing free legal support for victims. Additionally, he pledged to achieve a fully zero-emission bus fleet by 2030 and to clean up the Thames, aiming to make it swimmable within 10 years.
