Khali Best Educational AdviceÂ
So Khali as you know, Inside Success is a youth Enterprise and we work with a lot of young people. So the aim of these interviews is trying to get some good advice, and some aspirational targets you know set in place for young people. So my first questions here will be what is your first piece of advice you would give to a young person wanting to get into the acting industry?Â
My first piece of advice would be to go to Drama School. And the reason I say this is because I think drama school is very helpful. I went to Rose Brudford College for drama school as a matter of fact. And overall I do think drama school is a good tool for any actor because it’s training you know I mean and if you’re in any craft, training is important. Therefore I would highly recommend drama school for any upcoming or aspiring actor.Â
Khali Best Reflects on the length of his Career
How many years have you been acting in the profession, and working within an actual production, if you want to say?
Professionally since 2012. Which now that I’m reflecting on and saying it has been over 10 years. I mean wow, what an accomplishment.Â
Khali Best discussing how he Overcame ObstabclesÂ
Has your journey so far to this current day been nice to you, or has it given you obstacles?
The whole acting industry is an obstacle, but it has been good to me. However, I must warn the readers. Although it has been good to me, it has been difficult for a lot of others. Therefore as an actor you have to prepare yourself to go through periods where you will not work for a long term. Because there aren’t productions left, right and center presenting, or opening up roles for you know. I mean, im not saying that it does not work, that’s definitely not what I’m trying to say. But acting is a career where you have to have thick skin in order to survive.
Walking into it, it’s important to not be blind and oblivious to the harsh realities. Hence why I am telling you that there’s going to be a long period of time that you won’t work. However, there will be times that you do and it will bring you a favor. It’s quality over quantity in acting, and in the end the long periods of not working will make sense.Â
Final ThoughtsÂ
Like I said there’s going to be a lot of young people reading this. So is there anything that you can give as a piece of advice to someone wanting to get to the kind of opportunities that you’ve been able to get how to go about that?
Networking is the key. Talk to people. I always say to people that I want to get into acting to put myself in an acting environment. For example, let’s just say that there is a production going on, a YouTube or a film set. Turn up for the films and offer your services. Does anyone need me to do anything? Would you like some assistance? By doing this, you’ll be able to learn on the job and then sooner or later, an opportunity may land in your lap, and you’re offered a role.
