The Award stirred up some controversy
The results of the award show stirred some controversy among fans, with many shocked that the acclaimed, primetime Emmy-winning The Crown left empty-handed despite being nominated in eight categories.
Additionally, fans believed that Happy Valley was robbed at the BAFTA TV AWARDS, as Top Boy won the award for Best British Drama Series. X users vented their frustration on the app, showing their disapproval and disappointment over the results.
The BAFTA decision over the lifetime award left fans baffled. The night saw ITV daytime host Lorraine Kelly take the win, but fans were not happy with the decision and have since gone to X to question it.
Hannah Waddingham won the hearts of the nations
Moreover, actress Hannah Waddingham, 49, won hearts with her reaction to losing on the night. Her show, Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas, was in the running for the Best Entertainment award but lost to Strictly Come Dancing. After the announcement, the camera panned to Waddingham, who was seen smiling before lifting a bracelet, which doubled as a small flask, and taking a sip. She then raised it again, signaling “cheers.” Fans on X were delighted, with one calling her an “icon” for drinking out of her bracelet. “Hannah Waddingham’s reaction to losing to Strictly was just amazing,” another said. Later in the night, Waddingham emerged victorious when the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 won the award for Best Live Event Coverage.
