Rihanna on set for Dior

Police report files that 9x Grammy Award-winning singer, Rihanna, was home during Beverley Hills House shooting.

On Sunday, 9th March, the LAPD reported at 13:15 (21:15 GMT) that Rihanna’s Beverley Hills mansion was shot at. The incident took place while the pop singer was at home. Police on the scene confirmed to the BBC that evidence of assault rifle castings was found at the singer’s house.

Crime Scene Details

While the suspect has yet to be publicly identified, she has been described as a 30-year-old woman with braids. It’s been reported that the suspect took numerous shots, with some piercing through Rihanna’s front gate. The suspect later drove off in what’s been described as a white Tesla, parked 12km away from the crime scene. An LAPD spokesperson told reporters:

“When they pulled the suspect over and took her into custody, they searched the vehicle and located an assault rifle and seven casings.”

While it was confirmed that Rihanna was at the Beverly Hills mansion, more information is yet to be released as to whether her partner, A$AP Rocky or her children, Riot, RZA and five-month-old Rocki were present. Reassuringly, an anonymous source has told the Los Angeles Times that no one was harmed.

The singer is yet to comment on the attack.

How can celebrities feel safe in their homes?

Last year, it was confirmed that Rihanna’s net worth was $1 billion. Marking her as the sixth highest grossing musician in the world, according to Esquire. There’s no denying that with this level of worth, the singer is at high risk of home invasions, attacks and burglary scandals.

In fact, Sunday’s shooting isn’t the first time Rihanna has experienced a home-related crime. In 2018, there were two separate occasions of home invasions at the singer’s Hollywood Hills home. On 9th May 2018, USA Today reported the suspect, identified as Eduardo Leaon, had spent 12 hours inside the singer’s home and had been accused of stalking the singer. However, pleaded no contest in court.

How does this incident relate to youth safety in the UK?

Right now, the UK has seen a spike in gun crimes. In just the last month, there was a brutal shooting in Dlaston, London, resulting in a 9-year-old with a bullet lodged in their head. Two teenage suspects were sentenced in Cardiff following a drug-related shoot-out. And 22-year-old Luke Fortune was recently charged in court for the purchase of 40 guns and over 1,000 bullets.

Last year, The Standard revealed that up to 700 children from as early as the age of 10 were caught with knives and firearms in London alone. Gun crime is becoming more common in the UK, but the question is, why? Well, a new study finds that kids’ social media is one of the biggest tools exposing kids to harmful weapons, self-harm and misogyny.

Moving forward, it’s more important than ever that charities such as Power the Fight, St Giles Trust and CrimeStoppers, to name a few, receive the traffic and funding they need to help prevent UK youth-related gun crimes.
