After five weeks of war in the Middle East, the United States of America and Iran have finally come to a truce. But how long will it last?
Both countries have agreed to a ceasefire, and Iran has reassured that it will reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This compliance was initiated by Pakistan, which continues to act as a middle ground in the war.
However, there are some complications in the finer print of this agreement. Both the US and Iran have agreed to a ceasefire for two weeks only. What happens after that period is uncertain. Additionally, you will notice that Israel hasn’t been mentioned clearly in the agreement. This is because they have stated that it doesn’t extend to the war with Hezbollah in Lebanon. Because of this, Israel continues its attacks.
The official statement
Sharing on Truth Social confirmation of the ceasefire. Donald Trump wrote:
“A big day for World Peace! Iran wants it to happen, they’ve had enough! Likewise, so has everyone else! The United States of America will be helping with the traffic buildup in the Strait of Hormuz. There will be lots of positive action! Big money will be made. Iran can start the reconstruction process. We’ll be loading up with supplies of all kinds, and just “hangin’ around” in order to make sure that everything goes well. I feel confident that it will. Just like we are experiencing in the U.S., this could be the Golden Age of the Middle East!!! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

US and Iran
Speaking at a conference in Hungary today, the Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, addressed the ceasefire with hostility. “This is a fragile truce,” he says.
“If the Iranians are willing in good faith to work with us, I think we can make an agreement. If they’re going to lie. If they’re going to cheat. If they’re going to try to prevent, even the fragile truce we’ve set up from taking place, then they’re not going to be happy. Because what the president has also shown is that we still have clear military, diplomatic and maybe most importantly, we have extraordinarily economic advantage. The president has told us not to use those tools. He has told us to come to the negotiating table, but if the Iranians don’t do the exact same thing, they’re going to find out that the President of the Untied States is not one to mess around.”
Vance’s comments not only show his speculations but also uncover threats towards Iran. Proving yet again that there is still no concrete reassurance that this war has officially ended.
In the last 24 hours
On Tuesday, 7th April, Trump made some of his most heinous comments yet. As he shared online:
“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!”
The comments were so bad that Swedish Human Rights activist Greta Thunberg addressed the matter on her Instagram. “What the fuck is anyone even doing at this point? We have normalised genocide. Total annihilation of entire people,” she says. Commenting on the severity of the issue and the lack of action to protect people.
#GretaThunberg: "The President of the United States just said that a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again & no one is reacting. This speaks for itself: what the fuck is anyone even doing at this point? We have normalized total annihilation of entire people."

Moving forward
The ceasefire is a victory. However, the question is: for how long? Since it is currently under a two-week agreement. The opening of the Strait of Hormuz is also incredibly reassuring and is expected to have a positive impact on the energy crisis. However, not anytime soon. Its reopening doesn’t take away from the astronomical spike in the cost of living. It will take months for the economy to recover from the damage that has been inflicted in the last five weeks.
It’s easy to read this news and to be happy. But it’s also naive not to have concerns. We strongly advise young adults to keep their finger on the pulse. Stay as educated as possible on the terms of this ‘ceasefire’, because the energy crisis isn’t slowing down anytime soon. The cost of living is still something the younger generation can suffer from.
