On Sunday,15th March, Hollywood celebrated the 98th edition of the Oscars at the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles.
Award season is always an exciting time, and this year’s Oscars were no exception, featuring numerous iconic moments. From glamorous looks, to actors winning historic firsts, directors making home runs and movies winning multiple awards.
Let’s get into some of the most iconic moments that shaped the four-hour ceremony!
Michael B Jordan Takes the Best Actor Award
The last few weeks have felt quite steamy between Michael B Jordan and Timothée Chalamet as the two have gone head-to-head for the ‘Best Actor’ at the Oscars. In the running, Chalamet had been a strong contender. Winning the ‘Best Actor’ at both the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards. Up until recently, it was predicted to be a home run of three consecutive wins for Chalamet.
Last night, all odds were put to rest when Jordan took home the Oscar’s ‘Best Actor’ award. Making a first in his career and history as the sixth Black actor to take home this specific Oscar.

Jack O’Connell Stuns in Demonic Fangs
Sinners actor, Jack O’Connell, brought a special moment to the Oscars red carpet this year. Stunting in a fresh pair of gnarly fangs, complementary to the vampire character he played in the movie. Dressed in a fresh suit and fancy shades, the actor added a bit of spice to the carpet.
Though O’Connell has yet to take home any award wins this year, his work has been widely commended. His roles in both Sinners and 28 Days Later have further proved him to be a credible, versatile actor.

Autumn Durald Arkapaw Makes History as First Woman of Colour to Win Best Cinematography
Seeing ‘firsts’ like this at award shows in 2026 feels like a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it’s an exciting achievement, something that Autumn Durald Arkapaw is without a doubt worthy of. On the other hand, it makes you question how we have gotten this far without a woman of colour winning ‘Best Cinematography.’
Arkapaw’s win is an incredible achievement that will forever mark a significant change in film history. It’s a celebration for women everywhere.
Wunmi Mosaku Turns Heads in Glamorous Emerald Dress
There were many iconic looks from the Oscars this year. From the flamboyant flower accessory on Pedro Pascal’s shirt, to Demi Moore’s head-to-toe feather garment or Kevin O’Leary’s bold Dolce and Gabbana suit jacket. The latter is estimated to cost around $25-30 million American dollars. It’s fair to say a lot of celebrities pulled out all the stops for this special moment. And one person who stood out the most was British-Nigerian actress Wunmi Mosaku. Wearing a stunning emerald green dress, perfectly shaped for her new pregnancy bump, the actress turned heads with a piece that perfectly balanced class with elegance.

Barbra Streisand’s Iconic Ballad
There’s no denying that the Oscars are all about celebrating the incredible work of talented film industry professionals. From the actors, to the stage directors, costume designers and others. While we’re just three months into the new year, the industry has already had so many devastating losses. With the passing of Catherine O’Hara (Home Alone, Beetlejuice), Rob Reiner (Stand By Me, When Harry Met Sally) and Robert Redford (Charlotte’s Web, Avengers: End Game), to name a few.
The Oscars took a moment to honour the names of many greats who have most recently sadly passed on. Bringing out the incredible Barbra Streisand (A Star is Born, Meet the Fockers) for a stunning serenade for Redford’s tribute.
What message do award shows spread to the younger generation?
While medals and certificates aren’t exactly the pillar of success, one thing about award season is that it spreads the message of the importance of recognition. Whether it’s music award season or film, each time this period rolls around, it’s an exciting moment where we get to see hard-working industry professionals be commended for their work.
It’s a gentle reminder for the younger generation to follow their dreams. To know and see that there is hope for them to achieve the challenges they set themselves.
