The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has made further threats to Iran, demanding that the Strait of Hormuz be opened today.
On Sunday, 5th April, Donald Trump released another statement. Warning Tehran, the capital of Iran, that it has until Tuesday (7th April) to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Otherwise, there will be “hell” to pay.
What is the Strait of Hormuz?
The Strait of Hormuz is the direct line between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. It’s the only passageway that currently allows businesses to distribute oil and gas around the world.
On 28th February, the US and Israel joined forces to attack Iran. In response, the latter has blocked all access to the Strait of Hormuz. As a result, countries all over Europe and the US are facing the consequences, as its closure impacts energy bills. Thus, creating a major cost-of-living crisis.
Why is Donald Trump threatening Iran?
The war between the US and Iran is long-standing. Dating all the way back to the 19th century, when Iranian people held the US embassy hostage in Tehran for over a year. However, for a brief period, the two countries were able to keep each other at bay.
Moreover, for the past five weeks, Trump has been coordinating with Israel to order a series of attacks on Iran. This has so far led to the assassination of the Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei and the murder of over 3,400 people in the Middle East.

Trump’s official statement
Sharing on his Truth Social website, Trump declared,
“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
Trump’s recent threat to Iran is not new. In March, he made several comments about “obliterating” Iran’s power stations if they didn’t reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
What the younger generation needs to know
In the two months this war has gone on for, it’s already created an astronomical energy crisis globally. If this war continues, there will be an immense spike in energy bills for the generation that comes after us. If the US and Israel aren’t able to make a truce with Iran soon, there is very limited reassurance that the cost-of-living crisis won’t be an indefinite one.
