UK Pledges Support to Fight Mpox Outbreak in DR Congo

As the Mpox outbreak continues to devastate communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the UK has committed significant resources to help contain the spread. This international aid package focuses on providing vaccines, medical supplies, and expert training to frontline workers. We examine the importance of this “helping hand” in preventing a wider global health crisis.

What’s Mpox?

A bad cold, but instead of a runny nose and a cough, you also have a bumpy, itchy rash all over your body. That’s what Mpox feels like! It’s a bit like chickenpox, but it’s caused by a different virus. This virus is related to the one that causes smallpox, but Mpox isn’t as dangerous.

You can catch Mpox if you touch someone who’s sick or if you touch their clothes or things they’ve used. It’s like catching a cold, but you need to be closer to the sick person or their things.
