What are Safe Access Zones?

A Safe Access Zone is a designated area extending 150 metres from any abortion clinic or hospital entrance. Within this boundary, it is now a criminal offense to engage in activities that intentionally or recklessly influence a person’s decision to access services, or to cause them harassment, alarm, or distress.

Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips said, “Abortion is a woman’s right.” She stressed that no one should fear seeking healthcare. These new laws let women visit abortion clinics without fear of harassment.
