In Stratford, East London, a brand-new initiative called The Bloom Hub has opened its doors—and its arms—to women and girls aged 13 to 25. This “one‑stop shop” is more than just a drop‑in centre; it’s a sanctuary. Here, young women can find coffee, counselling, clothes, homework help, and above all, a space to be themselves—without judgment or intrusion.
Why This Matters Now
We live in a world where female safety and mental health are under strain. From online threats to overcrowded trains and cutting rhetoric in public spaces, young women often navigate the city with a tightened chest and second guesses. City Hall reports that many women still feel unsafe going out at night despite London’s “safe city” status.
At the same time, young women are disproportionately affected by violence and abuse—reports from October 2024 to February 2025 show that two‑thirds of the 1,000+ referrals to Advance’s young women’s services involved sexual offences or violent crime.
The Bloom Hub isn’t just filling a gap—it’s meeting a mental and social health crisis where it matters most.
Rooted in Community, Run by Women
Founded by Advance, a charity supported by the Violence Reduction Unit and the Ministry of Justice, the Bloom Hub is entirely led by women. It acts as a safe haven for females from cultures where co-ed spaces are not always safe—or even acceptable. Director Dali Kaur notes that many girls say they’re “not allowed in spaces where boys are.” So this space has been built just for them.
The Bloom Hub offers more than a safe room—it offers lived experience, support, and shared solidarity. Billie, 22, who grew up amid domestic violence, describes how Bloom made her feel: “They understand you and they know what you’re going through.”That sense of emotional safety—the freedom to breathe, cry, talk, rest—is transformative.
What It Offers and Why It Works
- Counselling & Homework
Private rooms mean after‑school support isn’t just about tutoring—it’s about creating environments where young women can study without fear or interruption.
