Is youth happiness declining worldwide?

Are you feeling stressed, anxious, or not as happy as you used to be? Trust us, you’re not the only one feeling this way. New research shows that young people in the UK, and around the world, are much less happy.  It’s even worse than what older generations are feeling.  

The Happiness Slump: What’s Going On?

Remember that old saying, “You’re only young once”? Well, it turns out that the idea that you’re supposed to be happiest when you’re young isn’t always true.  The latest research is throwing that myth out the window. Even here in the UK, young people aren’t ranking as high on the happiness scale as those who are over 60.

Money Matters: Let’s face it, life is expensive. Finding a decent place to live is getting harder. Paying for education is too. Even having fun with mates is getting harder. It’s no wonder we’re feeling the pressure.

Social Media Blues: Sure, social media helps us stay connected. But, it also creates pressure to look perfect and have the best life.  Comparing ourselves to others online can really bring us down.

Climate change, political chaos, and job insecurity make it easy to feel overwhelmed. They also make it easy to feel uncertain about the future.

3. Mindful Moments: Take a break from the hustle and bustle to practice mindfulness. Even a few minutes of deep breathing or meditation can help you relax and feel more grounded. Apps like Headspace or Calm can guide you.

4. Less Screen Time: Set aside time each day for a digital detox. Put your phone away. Do things that bring you joy. Read a book, go for a walk, or chat with a friend.

5. Connect In Real Life:  Make an effort to connect with people in person. Join a sports team, volunteer for a cause you care about, or simply have a coffee with a friend.  Building strong relationships is key to happiness.
