Interview
- What is your background?
- I am from Ghana i grew up in South London Streatham
It was alright living there are always ups and downs but I stayed on the right path
- What made you want to become an actor?
- At the start, I didn’t want to but it happened by chance. My aunty sent me an open casting call. I didn’t take it seriously and wanted to do it but it turned out well and they called me back for an in-person audition and to be honest I struggled with crying scenes. I never did anything to do with acting but my aunty saw it in me
They just wanted me to try something new to see how it goes and it worked out.
- Did you always want to be an actor?
- I wanted to be a footballer. I still do training but acting worked out in my favor.
- Do you feel like your upbringing and surroundings played a part in who you are now?
- yes, just coming from a Ghanaian background it was strict so it helped me be very disciplined on set. Naturally, I’m not a confident person which is a quick shock but being put on camera kind of throws me in the deep end
- Did you ever think the spotlight would come this early in your career?
- I feel like I have a lot to do but yeah it worked out. I thought I would become a big deal at the same time i did want it to but it wasn’t bad i just thought I am still young and wanted to experience life the same as my age mates but I’m just trusting in the process
- How did you get your role in The Kitchen on Netflix?
- Open casting, I was told I was talented. They gave me lots of tips, like putting my hand in my pocket and expressing my voice from Daniel Kaluuya, posture but they liked how I was naturally they didn’t try to change me too much but supported me a lot.
- What was it like working alongside big British actors and how did you conduct yourself?
- Amazingly, there’s lots to learn, but sometimes give people their personal space it’s not them being rude it’s just them focusing on their role and getting the time to perfect their craft.
- You’re still young, how do you balance being a youth and still building a career?
- I just go with the flow, I prioritize what needs to be done first and get things over and done with. In terms of everything else it follows after. There will always be time to enjoy yourself, just prioritize other things first.
- Have you ever had to make any sacrifices in this journey to be great?
- Missed a lot of football, and parties. I don’t mind missing the parties but football was a big deal for me but acting came first.
- What things do you do and implement in your life that help you become this great actor?
- My family is a big support system, and they are also my management so it works hand in hand. I prefer it that way, having your family as management helps you know that any decisions made always have your best interest. I would recommend it to other aspiring actors it works well
- What advice would you give people your age older or younger that are looking for that opportunity in acting ?
- Stay consistent, Keep auditioning With acting, keep staying relevant. Stay connected with the people who audition you and even if you don’t get the role stay on their radar thing can work out
