Introduction
Inside Success had the pleasure of hosting the “Empowering Success in the Film Industry” media workshop. It was a remarkable event, where we celebrated one of the world’s most renowned, successful, and versatile multi-media executives: Terry Jervis. Titled From Hackney to Hollywood, the event put the spotlight on Jervis’ inspiring journey. It offered all those in attendance, particularly the young people in the audience, a unique opportunity to gain insights into the world of media production. There, they learned about the challenges that come with working in the industry. But with hard work and dedication, it can produce endless rewards.
Recapping the Event
The exclusive event featured numerous highlights and activities that made it both engaging and enlightening. The workshop included a media showcase, an interview with the man of the night, Terry Jervis, and an interactive Q&A session that allowed the attendees to connect with and learn from him firsthand. What made the event particularly special was the premiere screening of Jervis’ documentary Raising Tennis Aces: The Director’s Cut: The Venus and Serena Williams Story. The movie dived into the story of the iconic Williams sisters under the leadership of their father and coach, Richard Williams.
The Venus and Serena Williams Story: Behind the Scenes
The documentary filled the atmosphere with anticipation, as the guests waited to delve into the lives of two of the world’s greatest tennis players in history. It captured the struggles, sacrifices, and resilience that the Williams family endured breaking into the predominantly white and elite sport of tennis.
Jervis shared his personal experience of curating the film. It was beyond fascinating to hear firsthand how he got the opportunity to create the film and what it was like working alongside the iconic Williams family. His story was one of passion, dedication, and humility, and it was a pleasure to watch the behind-the-scenes clips and hear his story about producing the outstanding documentary.
Jervis highlighted his desire to give the audience a personal touch. Thus, he emphasized the human stories behind the project, detailing his personal experiences with the family. He spoke about the girls and the dedication they showed toward perfecting their craft. Additionally, he spoke highly of their father, complimenting his unique coaching style and the vision he had for his daughters. He showed great admiration for the resilience of the family, emphasizing that no matter the challenges they faced, they always found a way to overcome them. Jervis emphasized that he learned so much from the Williams family, and his experience with them heavily influences his work today.
The Q&A Session
The event included an interactive Q&A session, where the audience could personally connect with Jervis by asking their own questions. It was the perfect opportunity for our young workers to gain deeper insight and meaning into the media industry. Additionally, they learned what it takes to be successful. The questions focused on numerous points, such as initial steps to break into the entertainment sector and how to cultivate unique creativity to stand out. Additional questions covered overcoming obstacles along the way, as well as more of Jervis’ achievements throughout his career. Jervis answered the questions by offering practical and empowering advice, but the most significant advice he left us with was the importance of persistence and passion.

Conclusion
The Empowering Success in the Film Industry workshop was a great success. It was an amazing opportunity for our youth workers to gain insight and meaning into the industry. Hearing it from an inspirational role model such as Terry Jervis made the entire experience 10 times better. Here at Inside Success, we pride ourselves on teaching our young people skills and knowledge about different career industries that they can take into the wider world. This workshop was just a demonstration of that. It taught our youth that through hard work, passion, and guidance, there is nothing they can’t achieve.
